Moving Experience Dance Project, based in Wirksworth has been running nearly 30 years and provides regular contemporary and creative dance classes and opportunities for children and young people. The classes, having been an example of early pioneering in this field, combine dance technique teaching based in contemporary style and ensuring a solid foundation for progression (former students have progressed to the Centre for Advanced Training East Midlands, vocational conservatoire training and professional dance occupation) with extensive creative development and performance opportunity. The latter includes opportunities to explore movement and ideas through improvisation, group work and choreography and provides experience and skills in ways of making dance as well as enhancing creative development, increasing confidence, communication skills, self expression, collaboration and team working skills. The sessions are sociable, supportive and fun, many children starting at age 3 and progressing through to 18 as they see it as an important and integral part of their lives.
Moving Together, is an integrated youth dance group, bringing young people with and without disability together in regular sessions to develop dance and creativity skills, improvise and play with ideas and create work collaboratively. The work is inclusive and responds to the individual needs of its members, allowing for each person to develop their skills, expand their expectations and express themselves within a supportive, creative and friendly atmosphere.
The group have made four pieces, Waiting Room (video work), Connections 1, Connections 2 and Absorbed, and performed at Interface, Derbyshire Youth Dance Platform, Deda 2019 (and selected for Interface 2020 which was postponed due to Covid-19) and Wirksworth Festival 2019, and also took part in The Carnival of The Animals for Wirksworth Festival Community Celebration Event 2018.
