Past projects

Performing arts and community development:

The Hill Project, Live (2018 - 19)

Project development, artistic direction and choreography for performance installation adaption of photographic exhibition by award winning artist Kate Bellis exploring the cultural and working life of the local community. Commissioned by Town Hall Events Wirksworth, and performed Wirksworth Festival 2018, and Copeland Gallery Peckham, 2019.

Tea Dance (2018 - 19)

A monthly event for older people. Social dance class, tea dance with refreshment

​

Wirksworth Festival Community Celebration Event (2013 - 17)

Management, development and delivery of site responsive community participation and promenade performance events and workshops with local primary and secondary schools, 100 local performers (music, dance, theatre, design), 800 audience.

​

Arts Explorers (2010)

Partnership work with Derbyshire County Council and SureStart Childrens Centres as part of CapeUK/CCE Pilot Project to inspire engagement in the arts from non-participating families in economically disadvantaged areas of the county.

​

DASH (2007)

Dance, Video and Skate Sports Project in partnership with Matlock Live Festival and Highfields School, working with young people to create an innovative urban performance at Matlock Hall Leys skatepark combining extreme sports with street dance and film-making.

Lifelines (2001 - 02)

Commissioned by Derbyshire County Council. Writing and visual arts participatory project celebrating cultural diversity in the lives of Derbyshire people. Resulting exhibition represented Derbyshire’s contribution to the Long Journey Home Commonwealth Games Spirit of Friendship Arts Festival, and toured Derbyshire venues.

Fast Forward (2000 - 02)

Development and delivery of Youth Dance Development, in partnership with Derbyshire County Youth Service, funded by DDC, DDDC, East Midland Arts, and Rural Development Programme. Long term programme of varied dance genres, choreography, music, video and theatre design, resulting in specially created performance: The Big Big Brother: multi media dance theatre including Street dance, Jazz, Body Percussion, Flamenco, Hip Hop, drama, dance video and video projection, design and music composition with 85 young people from the Derbyshire Dales. Focusing on comparison of rural and urban cultures, contemporary consumerism, personal and group image, and relationships.

Bolsover Children’s Festival (2001)

In partnership with Junction Arts, programme co-ordination, developing ten residencies in schools and youth centres, community and professional performances for weekend event at Bolsover Castle.

Arts in education, creative and cross curricular learning, teacher training and CPD:

2003 - 2018: ​       

  • Early Years and Foundation Transition Project: using dance and kinaesthetic learning to address transition issues and deliver staff training at South Normanton, Pinxton, Alfreton Nurseries and Infant Schools.

  • In partnership with Junction Arts: Dance and Drama performance project with Year 9 students based on youth crime, personal responsibility and decision making at Frederick Gents School, including teacher training.

  • Dance development projects at Shirebrook Community School with Yr 10 /11 students: i) exploring the GCSE science through dance ii) exploring disruptive social behaviour, alcohol abuse and responsibility through dance theatre.

  • Derbyshire Creative Learning Projects in partnership with Derbyshire County Council LEA at Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise Specialist College combining science and sports with performing arts at KS3; at William Allitt School, creative approaches to self assessment at KS4.

  • In partnership with Derbyshire County Council LA: i) CPD training in creative learning for Derbyshire teachers; ii) development work to explore Opening Minds Curriculum at KS3 with Glossopdale School and The Manor Academy, Mansfield Woodhouse iii) development work with Derbyshire teachers to explore concept of and arts provision for the Gifted and Talented Programme.

Children of the Mills (2004)

Development, management and artistic direction for multi-media performance project based on a child’s perspective of the industrial history of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. 3 linked site specific performances including dance, drama, video, music created from 6 weeks work within 6 primary schools, involving approx. 200 children.

​

Marching Through Heanor  (2002)

Devised dance theatre performance work for 80 Yr 6 performers at William Howitt School, exploring 100 years of local history through dance, drama and song.

​

Wirksworth 20-20: perfect vision (2000)

Dance theatre project commissioned by Derbyshire LEA to represent the county at Derbyshire’s Day in the Dome, October 4th 2000. Dance theatre work created with approx. 200 young people with live performance, video projection, creative writing and commissioned contemporary score, based on young people’s vision of their future.

The Secret Dance Club (2013 - 2015)

Learning Through Arts co-funded and managed choreography and performance opportunities for professional development for emerging dance artists in Derbyshire. See The Secret Dance Club for further information.

Up and Coming (2013 - 15)

Mentoring programme for emerging artists in Derbyshire to develop and make work individually and collectively - instigated, developed and managed by LTA. Work created shown at Wirksworth Festival.

Arts Out West (2013)

Development of Cultural Exchange Programme with artists from Derbyshire and Arts Out West, New South Wales, Australia, resulting in partnership with Wirksworth Festival 2013.

​

Bright in the Corner (2010 - 12)

Management of Derbyshire County Council Cultural Exchange Programme to Mamelodi, South Africa, working with schools, community  members and artists from Usuthu Art Productions and resulting in performances by company of professional and emerging artists form both nations as part of Igniting Ambition Cultural Olympiad at Deda, Emerge Leicester, Lakeside Nottingham, Wirksworth Festival.
